The spice farms are not working farms, but are set up for tourists. Still, it’s interesting to see where so many different spices come from. We see a wide variety of spices being grown — cardamom, clove, nutmeg, cinnamon, black pepper, turmeric, and lemongrass, among others.

Your guide will explains about the spices that are grown on the farms for the guests to see. Watch a local man spring up a coconut palm tree, singing at the top of his lungs the whole way. He brings down a couple of coconuts that they break open so you can drink the milk and eat the coconut flesh.
Various fresh tropical fruits that are in season can be sampled. Local home grown spices can be bought the farms, which helps support the farm and the local community.

A typical spice from starting from the Stonetown can last approximately 3 hours including the journey time (English) other languages on request.

Price US$ 30 per person min 2 pax, tour starts and ends at StoneTown Hotels. Includes local english speaking guide and entrance fees.

The drive from town to Kizimkazi a small village to the southern point of the island takes one hour. The surface of the Kizimkazi channel is broken by the skimming arcs of wild bottle-nosed dolphins.

Here you are taken by an outboard engine boat into the sea to see the dolphins, and if lucky you will be able to swim quite close with them, as they are very friendly and playful.

Please note that:
The at Kizimkazi are wild but there is an 85% chance of seeing these mammals.

Snorkeling is also part of this tour (snorkeling equipment can be hired at the site). Kizimkazi is also the site of a 12th Century Mosque, the earliest evidence of Islam in East Africa, the return trip includes a visit to this Mosque which still contains the famous Kufic scripts in its walls.

Please do not forget to take your towels, shorts and swim wear when you take this tour.

NOTE:
Lunch is not included on this tour but can be obtained at the site.

Prison Island or by another name Changuu Island is the middle islet of the three visible from the Stone town, it takes approximately 30 minutes to get there by a wooden boat powered by and outboard engine.

The prison on this island was built in 1893, which was later used as a Quarantine Hospital, it has a frangipani-lined path around the island where the former patients took their evening walks.

Apart from the Prison ruins you can also see the beautiful peacocks and the enormous giant tortoises some of which are over a 100 years old. Sultan Said brought these tortoises here from Seychelles in the 1820′s.

Efforts are being made to protect the eggs of the tortoise. The island is a superb scenario for the photographer. A self-walking safari covers the island in 15minutes.

On this little paradise one can also swim, snorkel, sunbathe or just relax and enjoy the peacefulness that this beautiful island has to offer for tours and travels etc.

It is a wonderful introduction of Zanzibar that gives you the feeling of the rich cultural heritage. One gets a comprehensive view, history and walk of the Stone Town. Magnificent architecture, narrow alleys, sand and stone ancient built houses where some of them are over 200 Years old that have Arab/Indian carved wooden doors.

We begin this tour at the main City market which was opened in 1904, where tropical fruits, vegetables, spices and fresh fish from the island are sold. Our next stop will be at the Anglican Church of Christ built by Bishop Steers in 1873 on the site where slaves were being auctioned.

Stone town

Other highlights on our historical stone town tour are a visit to:-

Sultan’s Palace (Now a Museum)
Built in the late 1890′s for members of the Royal Sultan’s family.

House of Wonder
Built in 1883 as a Royal ceremonial function Palace.

The Africa House
Formerly known as English Club.

The Old Fort
Built in 1700 by Arabs for defence against the Portuguese.

Jamituri Gardens
Where you can spend your evenings leisurely watching the brilliant sunset while enjoying the locally made dishes, Zanzibar pizza and barbequed sea food.

We round up our tour by walking through the narrow streets where you will find exotic bazaars, curio and boutique shops which offer novelty gifts and attractive batik materials. Here one gets a comprehensive view of the Stone houses, which have Arab/ Indian carved doors and the architecture which helps to make Zanzibar famous.

At present it is the habitat for the Red Colobus Monkeys and the Blue Sykes Monkey. The Red Colobus monkey is one of the most endangered and rarest species on this planet.

Jozani Forest, Red Colobus Monkey

The Red Colobus monkeys that are found in this Forest are very friendly and love to be photographed and can be viewed at close quarters by the help of your guide.

You may also get a glimpse of various butterflies, birds and snakes and other interesting features in this forest include the coastal evergreen bushland, mangrove forest, saline grassland and ground water forest, though these may require longer walks to reach.

Jozani forest is a reserve area where you can find nurseries which help to preserve the trees in the forest.
